Introducing the fifth release in the Brix Select Cask Series: #005 Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz.
This remarkable Australian Rum has been meticulously matured for five years in a single 225-litre French Oak barrel that once held Brokenwood’s award-winning 2017 Graveyard Shiraz, a vintage named Best Australian Shiraz at the International Wine Challenge in London.
This release represents the most mature Brix Rum to date.
One of the first barrels we filled in January 2019, just after Brix Distillery first opened its doors, #005 Graveyard Shiraz Cask symbolizes a significant milestone for our team. We could not be more proud to be releasing it alongside one of Australia’s most acclaimed wineries.
The combination of French Oak and quality wine has allowed the Rum to develop bold, alluring notes of black cherry, licorice, cocoa, honey, rose petals, and a touch of candied orange. Select Cask #005 promises an extraordinary sensory experience, unlike any Brix Rum before.
This single barrel Brix Select Cask Rum represents a true testament to the highest quality of Australian craftsmanship.

THE EXTRAORDINARY BROKENWOOD GRAVEYARD SHIRAZ
Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz is one of Australia’s most iconic wines, hailing from the historic Graveyard Vineyard in the Hunter Valley. Originally planted in the 1960s on land once marked for a cemetery for the Parish of Pokolbin, this vineyard produces vintages of low yield, but with extraordinary concentration of flavour in the berries, providing a distinctive wine style that is still evident in Brokenwood red wines.
Since the first vintage was produced in 1983, Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz has become synonymous with Brokenwood's commitment to quality, excellence and innovation. It's no wonder that when people ask, ‘what is the best red wine in Australia?’ Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz is often the answer.

When the team at Brokenwood put forward a special barrel that once held their award-winning 2017 Graveyard Shiraz, an acclaimed vintage named Best Australian Shiraz at the International Wine Challenge in London, we were humbled by the opportunity to discover the unique expression we could create with our Rum.

The experience will include a 4-course menu designed by Executive Chef Sean Townsend with Brix Rums and Brokenwood Wines to match. We have a fantastic lineup of Rums in store from Select Cask #005 Graveyard Shiraz to Select Cask #003 Pinot Gris, another released matured in a magnificent Brokenwood wine cask.

For a more rustic pairing, the Rum’s richness aligns perfectly with red wine jus or the tangy sweetness of chutneys and jams.

For a sweet touch, this Rum's rich notes of black cherry and cocoa pair beautifully with a decadent Black Forest cake, where layers of dark chocolate and cherries mirror its complexity. A serving of stewed fruits brings out the candied orange and licorice undertones, while a classic tarte tatin with caramelized apples complements the Rum's honeyed sweetness and floral rose petal notes.
