Stories are murky as to how the boilermaker first came into existence, but it’s pretty clear it was originally consumed by blue collar workers at the end of a long shift. And now, it’s the shift drink of choice among bartenders.

It’s believed the drink takes its name from the workers who built and maintained steam locomotives in the 1800s. These workers were known to head to the bar at the end of a shift, take a shot of whiskey followed by a crisp, cool beer. It quickly become a staple for boilermakers after a hard day.

Every month, in honour of these blue-collar workers, we feature a different local craft brewery and match their beers with our Brix rums. Our boilermaker specials run all month, but the perfect pairings culminate in one night of fun & frivolity.

Wayward Brewing founder Peter Philip has travelled the globe in search of little-known beer styles and old-world brewing techniques. After a few years of gypsy brewing out of Illawara Brewing Company – where he met Wayward's Head Brewer Shaun Blissett — Pete and Shaun finally opened the doors to their Camperdown brewery and taproom in October 2015. Wayward brew for adventure. It's about not over complicating things to produce a quality, tasty product. So Wayward beers use all-natural ingredients that are preservative free, unpasteurised and unfiltered.

So, join us as our we combine forces for one night of great local drinks, special releases, tasty food, and a few words from both camps on distilling & brewing. See you there!
